
Dr. Riley J. Williams III has been appointed Venue Medical Officer for the New York/New Jersey host region of the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
The New York/New Jersey area will host several tournament matches, including the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final, which will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
As Venue Medical Officer, Dr. Williams will serve as the primary liaison between FIFA and local healthcare providers, helping coordinate comprehensive, around-the-clock medical care for athletes, team personnel, and FIFA officials throughout the tournament.
Dr. Williams is Chief of the Sports Medicine Institute at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and serves as Medical Director and Head Team Orthopedic Surgeon for the Brooklyn Nets, New York Liberty, and New York Red Bulls. His appointment reflects decades of experience caring for elite athletes and leading sports medicine programs at the highest levels of competition.
The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be the largest tournament in the event’s history, bringing together teams and fans from around the world across host cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
